Why I’m Not a “Side-Hustle” Travel Advisor — I’m a Full-Time Professional

People ask me all the time, “So is this like a side gig? Do you just book cruises for friends and family?”No. I am not a hobby travel agent. I am a full-time professional travel advisor.  This is my career — not my side hustle. And that difference matters if you’re trusting someone with your vacation dollars, your honeymoon, your multi-generational family trip, your anniversary cruise, or your bucket-list rail journey through the Canadian Rockies.  Let me explain what that actually means for you.

1. I don’t “dabble in travel.” I manage your entire vacation experience.

A part-time agent might send you a booking link. I build the trip around you, start to finish.

When you work with me, I design the full experience — not just a flight and a hotel, not just a cruise reservation. I handle:

  • Ocean cruises (Alaska cruises, Caribbean cruises, Mediterranean cruises, European itineraries, world cruises, luxury cruises)

  • River cruises (Christmas markets, Rhine, Danube, Bordeaux wine cruises, etc.)

  • Expedition cruises (Antarctica, Galápagos, Arctic)

  • Rail journeys (Rocky Mountaineer in Canada, Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Europe, scenic rail in the Swiss Alps)

  • All-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico, including adults-only luxury and family-friendly options with water parks and kids’ clubs

  • FIT / “free and independent travel” itineraries built from scratch for couples or families who want custom city-to-city travel in Europe

  • Escorted small-group tours (10–24 guests, fully guided, curated experiences, skip-the-line access, insider dining)

  • Large-group travel (multi-generational family vacations, milestone celebrations, destination weddings, corporate incentive trips, friends’ groups who want to travel together and lock in group pricing)

That’s professional vacation planning. That’s what a full-time travel advisor delivers.

2. I personalize everything to match how you actually like to travel.

There’s no “standard package” with me. I build based on your travel style, your comfort level, your budget, and your energy level.

Some of my clients want a fully hosted, worry-free escorted tour through Europe — bags handled, driver waiting, private local guides, dining reservations handled.

Some of my clients want the opposite: total independence. Trains between cities, boutique hotels, food markets instead of tour buses, free time instead of set schedules. That’s FIT (free and independent travel), and I design that too.

Some clients want an all-inclusive resort because they don’t want to think about anything once they land — unlimited dining, premium drinks, water sports, kids’ activities, and no surprise bill at checkout.

Some want a cruise with a balcony cabin so they can watch glaciers in Alaska, plus private excursions in port instead of big bus tours.

Some want a once-in-a-lifetime rail journey like the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express because travel is the experience.

Different travelers. Different needs. My job is to build your version of “perfect.”

That’s not a link-click. That’s custom vacation design.

3. I do this every day, which means I’m current and proactive.

Travel changes constantly. Cruise lines update perks. All-inclusive resorts rebrand. Rail journeys sell out certain dates a year in advance. Entry requirements shift. Group space on popular Alaska cruise departures disappears fast for peak summer.

If you book online on your own — or with someone who does travel “on the side” — you’re doing guesswork.

Because I’m a full-time Houston travel advisor, I’m in it daily:

  • I track new cruise promotions, onboard credit offers, free Wi-Fi packages, and specialty dining incentives.

  • I know which all-inclusive resorts deliver true “all-inclusive” value and which ones upcharge you for every little thing.

  • I know which river cruise lines attract active travelers vs. which ones are better for slower-paced sightseeing.

  • I know which escorted small-group tour companies are worth the money — and which ones are just crowded bus tours with fancy branding.

  • I know when independent rail travel makes sense and when a luxury train journey is actually the smarter choice.

  • I know when it’s cheaper for a big family or group of friends to sail under a group contract and get perks like group dining and private events.

My job is literally to save you from wasting money on the wrong style of trip.

4. I’m not guessing. I have relationships.

Anyone can Google “best cruise deal.” That’s not the value.

The value is access.  Because I’m a full-time professional, I have direct contacts with cruise lines, river cruise lines, rail operators, escorted tour companies, and resort partners. That matters for you in real life:

  • You need guaranteed connecting rooms at an all-inclusive resort for a family of five? I’m not hoping. I’m reserving.

  • Your group wants private dining one night on board a cruise ship to celebrate an anniversary or retirement? I can often arrange that.

  • You’re planning a multi-generational Alaska cruise with grandparents, adult kids, and teenagers, and everyone has different mobility needs? I’ll build excursions that work for everyone.

  • Your corporate team wants an incentive trip in the Caribbean and needs group air, resort buyouts, and meeting space? I handle that level of detail.

  • Your luggage misses a connection on the way to your Mediterranean cruise? You’re not just “on hold with an airline.” You text me.

This is not DIY. This is advocacy.

5. I handle the details before they become problems.

Modern travel is not simple. Between flight delays, cruise line fine print, resort blackout dates, rail strike schedules, passport rules, and constantly changing entry requirements — there’s a lot that can go wrong if you don’t know what to look for.

Here’s what I do for you on every trip:

  • I review cabin and stateroom location so you’re not stuck under a nightclub or next to a service corridor.

  • I protect your vacation time by suggesting the right flight timing before and after your cruise (yes, it matters).

  • I help you understand what’s actually included in an “all-inclusive vacation” or “all-inclusive cruise” so you’re not hit with surprise charges for Wi-Fi, drinks, gratuities, or excursions.

  • I confirm transfers, luggage handling, and timing for rail connections so you’re not sprinting through a foreign train station with no local language.

  • I help you plan group dining, private tours, and shared experiences so your big family trip or group getaway actually feels special — not chaotic.

When I say “I manage your trip,” I mean I’m watching for the problems before you ever feel them.

6. I’m a no-cost travel advisor.

Here’s something people are always surprised by:  You get me — all of this planning, coordination, and support — at no additional cost.

I am a no-cost travel advisor. You don’t pay a planning fee for:

  • Cruise vacation planning

  • All-inclusive resort planning

  • Rail journeys

  • Escorted tours

  • Group travel coordination

  • Pre- and post-cruise hotel planning

  • Shore excursions and private tours

  • Airport transfers and travel insurance guidance

You get the benefit of a full-time professional travel planner without paying a consultation fee.

That’s very different from the “I do this on the side when I have time” model.

7. I scale from “just us two” to “30 of us traveling together.”

Not every trip is two people and a bottle of champagne on a balcony (although I love planning those).

I also build:

  • Multi-generational family vacations (grandparents, adult kids, grandkids — one smooth itinerary)

  • Celebration travel (retirements, milestone birthdays, vow renewals at sea)

  • Bachelor / bachelorette getaway groups

  • Friends’ trips (girls’ getaway weekends, guys’ golf cruises, wine-country river cruises)

  • Corporate incentive trips and reward travel

  • Faith-based and affinity groups

  • Destination wedding groups at all-inclusive resorts

Group travel is a logistics puzzle: group airfare, room blocks, dining space, excursions that work for different ages and abilities, payment timelines, cancellation windows. A side-hustle agent usually doesn’t have the bandwidth for that. I do.  Because this is my actual job, not my “extra income.”

8. I’m here before, during, and after the trip.

This is huge. Before you travel: I help you choose the right experience, lock in value, and make sure you’re prepared.

While you’re traveling: if something changes — weather, airline schedule, last-minute port change — I’m a real person you can reach.

After you travel: I want to know how it went, what you loved, and what you didn’t. Because I’m already thinking about your next vacation and how to make that one even better.

That is long-term travel partnership. Not one-and-done booking.

So why does it matter that I’m full-time?

Because you deserve:

  • Someone who knows the cruise lines, ships, itineraries, and cabin types — and can explain them in plain English.

  • Someone who understands rail journeys, not just flights.

  • Someone who can compare all-inclusive resorts honestly, not just what’s trending on social media.

  • Someone who can tell you when an escorted group tour is absolutely worth it (and when you’re better off doing custom independent travel).

  • Someone who has the patience and experience to coordinate 10, 15, or 25 people traveling together.

  • Someone who is watching promotions, inventory, contracts, and deadlines every day — not on weekends, not “when I get off work,” not “when I have time.”

That’s the difference between a side hustle and a professional.

Let’s plan your next trip

If you’re looking for:

  • A Houston travel advisor you can actually reach

  • A no-cost cruise travel planner who will watch pricing and perks for you

  • Personalized all-inclusive resort recommendations

  • Custom independent Europe travel with trains and boutique hotels

  • Escorted small-group touring with VIP access and no-stress logistics

  • Group travel planning for family, friends, or corporate incentive travel

…then let’s talk.

Whether you’re dreaming about Alaska, the Caribbean, Italy by train, a Rhine Christmas market river cruise, a beach resort in Riviera Maya, or an all-out celebration cruise with the whole family — I’ll build it around you.

I’m not here to push whatever’s “on special.”

I’m here to make sure your trip matches who you are — and how you like to travel.

That’s what a full-time professional travel advisor does.
